THE GREENGATES MEXICO IGCSE CURRICULUM

In Years 10 and 11 of Secondary School, Greengates students work towards globally respected International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) qualifications. IGCSEs encourage balance – with English, mathematics, Spanish, and at least one science required – while giving our young people the freedom to create a programme of study based on their interests and ambitions.

OUR IGCSE CURRICULUM

Our Year 10 and 11 students follow a variety of balanced and demanding two-year subject courses that lead to International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) qualifications. Based on the British GCSE programme, IGCSEs are adapted to an international school context to ensure relevance.

Over the course of the programme, students build a solid foundation in their compulsory and chosen subjects. Our selection of IGCSE options encourages balance – with English, mathematics, Spanish, and at least one science required – while enabling learners to pursue interests.

Globally recognised, our IGCSE programme in Mexico is the perfect preparation for the prestigious two-year International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

CHECKING IN

After we arrive and complete morning registration with our Form Tutors, we attend assemblies with our IGCSE coordinator. We’ll practice for the IGCSE exam series, which will happen at the end of the academic year in June.

GETTING READY

MATHS, ENGLISH, AND SPANISH

Our mornings are filled with lessons in the IGCSE’s required areas of Maths, English, and Spanish. They give us a strong foundation to build upon our favourite areas of study and to succeed as global citizens.

At midday, we pause to eat our lunches together and to relax on the field, taking time to get rejuvenated before afternoon lessons. We love catching up with friends and playing small games with our classmates.

Our STEAM subjects like biology, chemistry, physics, and computer science teach us how to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills in the natural world, where we can create solutions – whether we’re in a lab or field.

SMALL GROUPS AND PERSONALISED LEARNING

At our trailblazing IGCSE school in Mexico, world-class teachers provide expert one-to-one support in small groups, effectively nurturing our students’ growth. To ensure your child makes great progress, our teachers will identify areas for improvement and provide targeted guidance to overcome any challenges.

The high-level, personalised support we offer at Greengates helps our students to develop a deeper understanding of their IGCSE subjects. Expert instruction also enables them to build the critical thinking and problem-solving skills they need to achieve excellent exam grades.

SELECTING YOUR IGCSE OPTIONS

Our students select their IGCSE options at the end of Year 9. Their subject and year group teachers, the Head of the Intermediate School, and the IGCSE Coordinator help them to make choices based on the options that best fit their needs and interests. We’ll work collaboratively with your child to help them map out a pathway to future success, both in school and beyond.

All our students are required to study English language, Spanish language, maths, and PE. Your child will then select five IGCSE subjects from across the curriculum. Our aim is for students to select a breadth of options that will intellectually test them and prepare them for the future.

At Greengates, we also support students to sit their IGCSE exams early. Children taking maths and Spanish as a foreign language in Year 9 (or even Year 8) have a 100% pass rate.

SMALL GROUPS AND INDIVIDUALISED LEARNING

In our IGCSE programme, teachers provide one-on-one attention in small groups, as an effective way to support our students in achieving their academic goals. The small groups have no more than 15 to 18 students. Additionally, our teachers will make interventions to identify areas of challenge or difficulty and provide targeted support to help our students overcome these challenges.

This high level of personalised interactions helps them to develop a deeper understanding of the IGCSE curriculum and build the critical thinking and problem-solving skills they need to achieve higher grades on their exams. This support helps them arrive at their full potential and succeed in a demanding academic environment.
