THE INTERNATIONAL PRIMARY CURRICULUM (IPC)

At Greengates Primary School, our students follow the renowned International Primary Curriculum (IPC).

Currently used in more than 90 countries worldwide, the IPC is a flexible, thematic, and creative international Primary School programme, which can be adapted to each student’s interests, strengths, and level of understanding. It sets clear personal, subject, and learning goals, nurtures our children’s natural curiosity, and hones the traits they need for a successful school career. It also teaches our learners to respect and understand our global community..

Greengates was the first Primary School in Mexico – and Latin America – to achieve IPC and International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) accreditation. The IEYC and IPC are part of the International Curriculum Association (ICA), which has been helping schools develop learning since 1984.

The IPC’s approach to learning

Our IPC delivers an outstanding Primary education in Mexico, offering a balanced combination of stimulating academic, personal, and international experiences. Children learn across a wide range of subjects, including science, history, geography, and art. In English and maths, meanwhile, our students follow the English National Curriculum, adapted to our IPC context.

At Greengates Primary School, we encourage students to actively set their own learning goals, which are based on their individual strengths, areas for development, and interests. Our teachers create an individualised learning plan for each child, which outlines the steps needed to achieve their targets.

EMBRACING OUR LOCAL CONTEXT

Our approach to learning at Greengates Primary School is inspired by our host country of Mexico and the educational authorities of the Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP). Here, Mexican nationals and native Spanish speakers work towards learning targets set by the SEP through Spanish language and IPC Social Studies lessons.

We expect our young international students to achieve literacy in Spanish by the end of Primary School, with their linguistic journey beginning in the Early Years. By the end of Primary, we also want them to have an in-depth knowledge of Mexican history and geography, and a sincere appreciation for our country’s rich culture and traditions.

READY TO LEARN
When we arrive at school, we’re greeted by all our teachers at the entrance. We gather on the patio and chat or play with friends until the bell rings! Then, we line up next to our class teacher to get ready to learn.

HYDROPONICS AND GARDENING
In our vibrant garden with a hydroponics system, we can learn how to hang plants, so their roots are within a flow of water. We can also get our hands dirty, grabbing a bucket and spade, as we make our mark in the garden.
